Supplemental Security Income payments for December 2026, with benefits of up to $994, are scheduled to reach recipients in 31 days.
SSI is generally paid on the first day of each month. When that date lands on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment is issued on the last business day of the prior month instead. Since the first day of the month falls on a Tuesday, recipients will get their benefits on Dec. 1.
The program is designed to assist people with limited income who are blind, are 65 or older, or have a qualifying disability.
The amount each beneficiary gets depends on several factors, including filing status. Individual recipients may receive as much as $994, joint filers can get up to $1,491, and people who provide essential care to SSI recipients may be eligible for up to $498.
Along with the other requirements for SSI, recipients must be U.S. citizens or noncitizens in one of the alien classifications recognized by the Department of Homeland Security.
They also must live in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands, and cannot be outside the United States for an entire calendar month or for 30 consecutive days.
The Social Security Administration’s full payment schedule is available on the agency’s website.
