National Grid says it will introduce a new Tiered Discount Rate Program for income-eligible electric and gas customers in Massachusetts starting Sunday, Nov. 1.

In a news release, the utility said the program will provide six levels of income-based discounts for both electric and gas service. The Department of Public Utilities has approved the statewide rollout.

The company said it was the first utility in Massachusetts to propose and put in place a tiered income-based discount for electric customers. It added that it sought to extend the same model to gas customers through its recent gas rate case.

To offer in-person help with bill management and energy assistance programs, National Grid will hold customer assistance events in nine Massachusetts counties next month. The events are intended to help customers navigate their bills and learn about available support programs.

A full schedule of the in-person events is available on the National Grid website.

Residential customers who want help with a bill assistance program can also sign up through their My Account login, visit ngrid.com/hereforyou, or call 800-233-5325 for additional information.

A virtual webinar, Fall Customer Bill Assistance on Nov. 30, will accompany the in-person events and the 12-month Budget Plan information guide. Registration is available online.
