If you’re waiting for your ANCHOR check, New Jersey residents can look up the status of their property tax relief payment online. The state’s latest ANCHOR benefits are being distributed now, and applicants can see whether their rebate has been approved or issued.
The Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters, known as ANCHOR, is a property tax relief program for eligible homeowners and renters who meet income and residency rules. According to the New Jersey Division of Taxation, this year’s benefit is based on a resident’s income, age and residency in 2025.
There is also a filing deadline coming up for residents who still need to apply.
Here’s what to know about checking your payment status and whether you still need to submit an application.
How can I check my ANCHOR payment status?
New Jersey residents can review the status of their ANCHOR application and payment through the state’s online status system.
The official ANCHOR page on the New Jersey Division of Taxation website includes a “Check Your ANCHOR Status” tool that can show whether a payment has been processed or is still pending.
To use the tool, visit the state’s ANCHOR webpage and enter your Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number along with your ZIP code.
When should I expect my ANCHOR payment?
The timing and method of payment can depend on how the application was filed and which payment details are on record.
For many residents, the state filed the application automatically. That included most eligible homeowners under 65 who are not receiving Social Security Disability or Railroad Retirement Disability benefits, as well as most eligible renters.
If you received the prior year’s ANCHOR benefit by direct deposit, the state said it used the same banking information for the current benefit unless you asked for a change by the deadline for updates.
Do I still need to file for ANCHOR?
Possibly. New Jersey automatically filed applications for most eligible homeowners under 65 who are not receiving Social Security Disability or Railroad Retirement Disability benefits, and for most eligible renters of all ages. Those residents were sent ANCHOR Benefit Confirmation Letters.
If you did not receive a confirmation letter but think you qualify, you may still submit your own application.
Senior homeowners and people receiving Social Security Disability or Railroad Retirement Disability benefits must file the combined PAS-1 Application for Property Tax Relief themselves. The state does not automatically complete that form for them.
What is the ANCHOR application deadline?
The deadline to apply for the current ANCHOR benefit is coming soon. New Jersey is also holding a filing event at the Division of Taxation in Trenton, where state representatives will help residents complete PAS-1 and ANC-1 applications.
Additional locations in Galloway, Freehold, Fair Lawn and Cranford will remain open late for filing assistance.
What is the NJ ANCHOR program?
ANCHOR stands for Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters. The program offers property tax relief to eligible New Jersey residents who own or rent a primary residence and meet the state’s income limits. The benefit is based on residency, income and age.
