AT&T customers who submitted claims in a $177 million data breach settlement may start receiving payments in the coming weeks after a federal judge gave final approval to the deal.
The settlement stems from two data incidents AT&T disclosed in 2024. According to the official settlement website, final approval was granted on Oct. 2, 2026.
Assuming no appeal is filed, the settlement is expected to become effective on Nov. 12. Once that happens, payments must be sent electronically or by paper check within 60 days, although no exact distribution date has been announced.
How much could customers get?
The $177 million settlement is split between the two incidents: $149 million for the March 2024 incident and $28 million for the July 2024 incident.
Depending on which incident affected their information and what type of claim they filed, eligible customers may receive different amounts.
- March 2024 data incident: Eligible customers may claim up to $5,000 for documented losses related to the incident. They may also qualify for a tiered cash payment depending on whether their Social Security number was included in the exposed data.
- July 2024 data incident: Eligible customers may claim up to $2,500 for documented losses tied to the incident. Some may instead qualify for a tiered cash payment.
The amount of any tiered payment has not yet been set. Final payouts will depend on the money left after administrative costs, attorneys’ fees and other court-approved expenses, along with the number of valid claims filed.
Who qualifies for the AT&T settlement?
The settlement applies to people whose information was involved in one or both of the 2024 incidents.
The March incident involved personal information found in a data set posted on the dark web. Depending on the individual, exposed information included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account passcodes, billing account numbers and Social Security numbers.
The July incident involved certain customer call and text interaction records that were downloaded from an AT&T workspace hosted on a third-party cloud platform.
The incidents may have affected millions of current and former AT&T customers. Those who were eligible had to file a claim by Dec. 18, 2025. That deadline has passed, and new claims are no longer being accepted under the settlement terms.
How can customers check their settlement status?
Customers who already filed a claim can go to the official settlement website to review available information and updates.
Kroll Settlement Administration is handling the case.
Customers should be wary of unsolicited messages asking for payment or sensitive personal information in order to release settlement funds. To confirm details, use the official settlement website or the published phone number.
The settlement resolves the lawsuits without AT&T admitting liability or wrongdoing. The company has not announced a specific date for customer payments.
