$1,000 Feels Like $100 Now, Homeowner’s Complaint Resonates Online

Digilifetrends Published 2 min read

Many homeowners today say the cost of just about everything has climbed, with inflation, shortages, and other pressures making basic expenses feel harder to manage. Social media is full of people venting about rising prices, especially for necessities such as utilities.

Homeowner complains about costs.

A TikToker says she has seen a sharp increase in the price of nearly everything tied to owning a home, and she captured that frustration in a humorous video. According to @ericaxconcon, the costs connected to homeownership have surged so much that $1,000 now feels like $100.

Other users echoed her sentiment in the comments, sharing their own experiences with higher prices.

Her comparison is an exaggeration rather than a literal measure of inflation, but she is far from alone in making that kind of statement. Plenty of people say they feel the same pressure when looking at today’s economy.

Woman Says Homeownership Costs Have Skyrocketed

In the video, the TikToker speaks from her car while sipping an iced coffee and addressing her followers. “If there’s one thing that homeownership has taught me thus far, it’s that $1,000 is basically the new $100,” she said, explaining that every time she needs something for the house, the price seems to land around $1,000, whether it is furniture, appliances, or a plumber.

“At this point, the money is just flying out of our wallets,” she added. “It’s kind of crazy how comfortable we’ve gotten with saying, ‘Oh, what’s another $1,000.'”

Others Say They Feel the Same Way

Several commenters said they could relate to the sentiment and described similar experiences in their own homes. “It’s truly so brutal,” one person wrote. “We did the biggest stuff to make it livable and now are doing little projects here and there to save.”

She is not the only person drawing attention to the issue. Joshua Gholson posted a similar message on Facebook, saying that $1,000 is the new $100 in today’s economy. A Reddit user also raised the same concern, asking whether everything has simply become too expensive.

“My wife and I make good money, but I swear it doesn’t go far,” the person wrote. “It’s like 100 bucks is the new 20, and $1,000 is the new $100. Has everything just gotten too expensive for the middle class?”

The inflation numbers do not literally match the math people are using, but the repeated comparisons across different platforms suggest a widely shared frustration. For many, it simply feels like nearly everything costs more than it used to.
