Picture spending years at the gym, seeing the scale go down, and still noticing no change in your waistline.
That was the frustrating reality for Michella Giunta.
The TikTok creator had struggled with her abdomen for years before realizing her persistent belly was not the result of a fitness routine gone wrong. A medical condition was behind the stomach that would not flatten.
Michella Giunta lifted weights for years without realizing her stubborn belly was not a gym issue
For years, Michella Giunta brought up her abdomen to doctors. Each time, she said she was given the same familiar advice: drink more water, go to the gym, and take laxatives.
After a while, she stopped pressing for answers and assumed her shape was simply her body type.
But she told her 220.7K followers on TikTok and 43.9K followers on Instagram that everything changed over the past few weeks.
She said she had been lifting weights for four years and had lost 20 pounds since January, yet her stomach still looked huge whenever she checked the mirror.
Michella regularly took photos and videos to follow her progress, unaware of what was actually happening inside her body.
Only later did she understand that the bulge in her stomach was not a sign of fitness failure.
Even after losing 20 pounds, her abdomen still stood out
A CT scan finally gave her an answer. Doctors found an ovarian cyst that was responsible for the enlarged abdomen.
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac that forms on or inside an ovary. Many are harmless and disappear on their own, but some grow large enough to cause symptoms or complications.
Michella has sometimes called the growth a “tumor,” though the terms are not the same, since ovarian cysts are not necessarily cancerous.
“I have been lifting for years, fighting this tumor. So, it's just really squished in there, but unfortunately, it's real,” she said.
For a long time, she said she felt as if she were nine months pregnant, even when she was not exercising.
“So, honestly, I think I'm some kind of superhuman,” she added.
She said the 18-pound ovarian cyst was “the size of a massive watermelon”
The TikToker said the cyst weighed 18 pounds and filled nearly her entire abdomen.
“From what I can tell, those are my organs,” she said, pointing to a thin layer above her stomach.
“As you can see, I'm literally just 20% tumor,” she added, sharing the growth’s measurements: 35 centimeters long, 24 centimeters wide, and 14 centimeters thick.
She said the cyst had pushed her organs upward, taking up space across her abdomen and extending toward her ribcage.
Michella also showed the mass from different angles, explaining that it was compressing her organs.
“It is the size of a massive watermelon,” she said.
She even held a “gender reveal” for the cyst she nicknamed “Boink”

Despite the shocking discovery, Michella still found room for humor. She hosted a gender reveal party for the cyst, which she has affectionately called “Boink.”
For the reveal, she asked a bakery to assign a gender to the mass, and she would learn the result when she opened the cake.
The bakery’s final answer was “twins.”
“To be fair, my tumor is pushing up my organs as much as a full-term pregnancy with twins. So, this is actually very fitting,” she joked about the cake.
She later said that twins would theoretically be her worst nightmare and ultimately decided Boink was a boy.
Michella eventually had surgery to remove the massive cyst. It contained more than eight liters of fluid and weighed just over 18 pounds.
The procedure also led to the removal of her left ovary and left fallopian tube.
“And apparently, they found endometriosis all over my stomach, which is alarming to me because I am in no pain at all,” she added.
She said the surgery was completed without complications.
After surgery, she said she felt like she was truly living for the first time
After years of living with an enlarged abdomen and trying to understand what was wrong, Michella can now move forward without the heavy weight and discomfort of the cyst.
Her successful surgery opened a new chapter and brought an end to years of struggling with a condition she did not know she had.
“I feel like this is my first time living. I’ve only ever known a life of pain and discomfort, and I literally had NO idea!!!” she wrote on Instagram.
Although her story ended well, many viewers were upset by how long it took for her to get a proper diagnosis.
“Literally why I don’t trust doctors, this poor girl,” one person commented, while another wrote, “Women’s health is never taken seriously.”
“I was just talking to a woman yesterday who had a very similar experience,” another person shared. “Women's bodies are more alien to mankind than the surface of Mars at this point.”
One commenter said bluntly, “Those doctors need to get canceled.”
“I'd sue for neglect,” another wrote.
“I saw your body and immediately knew it was a cyst,” said another. “It’s crazy how much women are ignored until we are SCREAMING at the top of our lungs for help.”
“The US healthcare system is so disappointing,” one commenter wrote
