Millions of Americans who receive Social Security benefits have assigned payment dates across October 2026, with each deposit depending on when benefits started or on the recipient’s birthdate.
Some beneficiaries are set to receive their money on Wednesday, October 28, while Social Security retirement, disability, and survivor benefits generally follow a staggered schedule for most people who began receiving payments after May 1997.
The Social Security Administration sets payment dates based on birthdates, while some long-term recipients follow a different calendar. Beneficiaries who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 are scheduled to get their October payment on Friday, October 2.
For most others, the month is divided into three Wednesday payment groups. Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of any month are scheduled for Wednesday, October 14.
Those born between the 11th and 20th are due on Wednesday, October 21, while people born between the 21st and 31st should receive payment on Wednesday, October 28.
These dates apply to eligible retirement, disability, and survivor beneficiaries under the standard schedule. If a payment does not arrive on the expected day, the SSA advises checking with your bank or financial institution before reporting a missing deposit.
October also includes an important period for people planning ahead for 2027. Medicare’s annual Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15 through December 7, 2026, giving beneficiaries a chance to review coverage and make eligible changes for the following year.
The SSA’s official website, ssa.gov, provides payment details and program updates. Beneficiaries can also compare Medicare coverage through Medicare.gov before choosing plans for 2027.
When will disability beneficiaries get paid?
People receiving Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, typically follow the same birthdate-based schedule as retirement and survivor beneficiaries.
That means the October payment date depends on the recipient’s birthday unless another scheduling rule applies to the benefit.
Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, follows a separate calendar. SSI recipients are scheduled to receive their October payment on Thursday, October 1, since payments are usually issued on the first day of each month unless that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.
SSI supports eligible older adults and people with disabilities who have limited income and resources. It is separate from Social Security Disability Insurance, although some people qualify for both programs.
If an electronic payment does not show up on the scheduled date, contact your bank or financial institution first. Processing delays can affect when money appears in an account, even if the SSA has already sent the payment.
If the money is still missing, delayed, or may have been stolen, contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213. People who use TTY services can call 1-800-325-0778, or they can reach out to their local Social Security office for help.

A cancer patient has better things to do than sit for hours in an infusion chair. A medicine that safely cuts that burden is progress, even if its ingredients are already familiar.
