Why a Bilt Card Still Has a Strong Case for Keeping 4% Bilt Cash

Digilifetrends Updated 2026-10-28 4 min read

The Bilt Cash setup has long been a source of confusion, and Bilt is moving to streamline its rewards framework by eliminating this option for new cardholders.

Even so, there is a compelling reason to hold on to Bilt Cash earning: the point accelerator tied to the Bilt Palladium and Bilt Obsidian cards.

The idea is straightforward. Redeem $200 in Bilt Cash, and for the next $5,000 in card spending, you earn 1 extra point per dollar. That boost can be used up to five times per calendar year.

For these two cards, the earning structure works like this:

CardWithout point acceleratorWith point accelerator
Bilt Palladium2 points per dollar spent on purchases3 points per dollar spent on purchases
Bilt Obsidian
  • 3 points per dollar spent on your choice of groceries (up to $25,000 per calendar year) or dining
  • 2 points per dollar spent on travel
  • 1 point per dollar spent everywhere else
  • 4 points per dollar spent on your choice of groceries (up to $25,000 per calendar year) or dining
  • 3 points per dollar spent on travel
  • 2 points per dollar everywhere else

The catch is that maxing out all five accelerators requires $1,000 in Bilt Cash each year. You may need even more if you also want to unlock 1 point per dollar on housing payments through Bilt, which costs $30 in Bilt Cash for every $1,000 of housing payments.

Under the new earning setup, the Bilt Cash you can collect may not be enough to fully support that strategy:

  • Bilt Palladium: $600 Bilt Cash annually, plus another $50 in Bilt Cash for every 25,000 points earned
  • Bilt Obsidian: $100 Bilt Cash annually, plus another $50 in Bilt Cash for every 25,000 points earned

By contrast, legacy cardholders who keep the 4% Bilt Cash option can generate another $200 in Bilt Cash for every $5,000 spent, which then unlocks the next accelerator.

Why Bilt's point accelerator stands out among rewards cards

Many rewards cards offer 2 points per dollar on everyday spending, but cards that deliver 3 points per dollar in those categories are rare. The Bilt point accelerator makes that possible on the Bilt Palladium card for up to $25,000 in total purchases each calendar year.

Those points also have outsized value because they transfer to strong partners such as Atmos Rewards, United MileagePlus, Japan Airlines, World of Hyatt and others. Based on Oct. 2026 TPG valuations, Bilt points are worth 2.2 cents apiece, making them the most valuable points in the market.

Put another way, using the accelerator can amount to a 6.6% return on everyday purchases, which is exceptional for spending that would not normally earn bonus rewards.

The accelerated earning on the Bilt Obsidian card is also attractive, particularly given its $95 annual fee.

Hyatt transfers are still available at 1:1 for now

Another change is set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027: Bilt transfers to World of Hyatt will shift from a 1:1 ratio to 4:3, with no grandfathering.

Until then, points can still be transferred to Hyatt at the better 1:1 rate. In theory, that gives cardholders time to apply for the Bilt Palladium Card, earn the welcome bonus and move those points to Hyatt before the ratio changes.

That makes acting sooner rather than later more appealing for anyone hoping to take advantage of the current Bilt rules.

Current offers on Bilt cards

These are the current offers for the two cards that include the point accelerator:

  • Bilt Palladium Card: Earn 50,000 points plus Bilt Gold status after spending $4,000 on everyday purchases in the first 90 days, plus $300 of Bilt Cash.
  • Bilt Obsidian Card: Earn $200 of Bilt Cash when you apply and are approved.

With either card, you can unlock the first point accelerator right away by redeeming $200 in Bilt Cash. If you keep the 4% Bilt Cash option, you can then earn another $200 in Bilt Cash by reaching the $5,000 spending threshold.

Bottom line

Bilt offers several ways to earn points and rewards, but one of them will be closed to new cardholders at the end of 2026. If you want access, now is the time to move.

Using the 4% Bilt Cash option on the Bilt Palladium Card makes the point accelerator especially valuable, effectively turning the card into a 3-points-per-dollar earner on everyday spending. Because that rate applies to up to $25,000 in annual spending, it can produce 75,000 Bilt points a year from that earning method alone.

The point accelerator will remain available to Palladium and Obsidian cardholders in 2027, but earning enough Bilt Cash to maximize it will be tougher without the 4% Bilt Cash option along the way.

If you've been considering a Bilt card, this may be the moment to act.
