A supplement sold at Whole Foods Markets and online has been recalled over concerns that it may be contaminated with salmonella. The recall covers one lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha capsules, 120 count. The FDA identified the possible contamination during routine testing of a retail sample, and no illnesses tied to the recall have been reported.

The product was distributed by Vitality Works Inc. in white plastic bottles marked with UPC 9948252099. The recalled lot number is 2025-26227, and the expiration date printed on the bottom is October 13, 2028. It was sold nationwide at Whole Foods Market stores and on Amazon.com.

Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness that may lead to fever, diarrhea and stomach pain. Symptoms usually begin within six hours to six days after exposure and can last for as long as a week. Most people recover without treatment, but the illness can be more serious for young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

Customers who bought the recalled capsules are advised to discard them and may obtain a refund at Whole Foods Market locations. Those who ordered the product through Amazon should review their order history for the 120-count bottle and the purchase date. Questions can be directed to Vitality Works at (505) 268-9950 during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain Time.
