Where the Surviving Leading Ladies of Happy Days Are Now

More than 40 years have passed since Happy Days ended its run, and the cast has changed considerably since those days. The beloved sitcom, which aired from the 1970s into the 1980s, featured Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, Marion Ross, Anson Williams, Tom Bosley, Don Most, Scott Baio, and other standout TV stars of the era. Although the series often centered on its male leads, including the good-natured Richie Cunningham and the effortlessly cool Fonzie, the women helped make the show feel complete. Marion Ross stood at the center as one of television's most cherished moms, and she was joined by memorable female characters played by Cathy Silvers, Lynda Goodfriend, Linda Purl, and the late Erin Moran.

In the years since the sitcom wrapped, many of the surviving cast members have kept its legacy alive, even as their appearances have changed. As with other looks back at how classic TV stars have evolved over time, the transformations of the Happy Days actresses can be striking. Some now look dramatically different from their on-screen days, while others seem barely changed at all.

Marion Ross still favors bright hair colors, much like Mrs. C

Marion Ross became widely loved for playing Marion Cunningham, the mother of Richie and Joanie. Known affectionately as Mrs. C, she brought warmth and energy to the role of a classic 1950s homemaker. During the show's eleven seasons, Ross experimented with several shades of her signature red hair, including the coppery tone seen in the older photo on the left. From strawberry blond to deeper auburn, the comparison shows how beautifully the character's look evolved after Ross's 1970s breakthrough.

Ross later kept that same bright, vivid approach to her hair. Rather than embracing gray, she has continued to wear warm, richly colored styles, sometimes leaning toward deeper brown tones like the chestnut shade seen in the photo on the right. A candid image from late 2025, taken shortly after her 97th birthday, was shared on Instagram by her son, actor and comedian Jim Meskimen, as the family marked Thanksgiving together. He wrote “Thankful” and added, “Sending you Happy Days from Mrs. C!”

Lynda Goodfriend looks very different from her Happy Days years

After playing Lori Beth Allen on Happy Days, Lynda Goodfriend moved in a new professional direction, and her appearance also changed over time. When the sitcom ended in 1984, she kept acting for about another decade before shifting behind the camera and eventually becoming an acting instructor. She now teaches at the New York Film Academy. Fans of the show may not immediately recognize her today, as she has not appeared onscreen since the 1990s and later adopted a completely different style.

The contrast is clear in the side-by-side photos. On the left, Goodfriend is shown with the dark brunette hair and rounded bob that viewers remember from the series. Decades later, her look is far more changed. After wearing dark hair for many years, she now appears blond in the image on the right, which comes from a series of Film Courage YouTube videos posted in 2025. In her 70s, she looks like a different person, though she still has the same warm smile and bright eyes that won over audiences and Richie Cunningham alike.

Linda Purl has changed very little since her Happy Days days

Among the Happy Days alumnae, Linda Purl may be the one who still resembles her younger self the most. She first joined the series in Season 2 as Richie's girlfriend Gloria, then later returned in Season 10 as a completely different character. As Ashley Pfister, Fonzie's serious girlfriend, she stood out as a blond beauty with one of the most memorable '80s looks. In the older photo, her styling includes big curls, full bangs, and a bright, colorful wardrobe, along with blue eyes and a polished appearance.

Decades later, not much has changed. In a more recent photo from 2025, Purl still wears blond hair and soft bangs, although her shade is now lighter and cooler than the golden tones of the past. Her hair is also shorter than it was during her Happy Days years. She continues to look stylish, including in a retro patterned dress, and her blue eyes remain striking.

Cathy Silvers is still glowing after more than four decades

Even after more than four decades, Cathy Silvers remains easy to recognize as Jenny Piccalo. She played Joanie Cunningham's playful and flirty best friend in the final seasons of the show, and viewers remembered her for her bright smile and lively eyes. The older image shows Silvers as Jenny with her signature warm honey-brown hair, golden highlights, and the small bow that often appeared on one side.

After Happy Days, Silvers moved away from hair bows and tried many different looks. In 2014, she appeared at a red carpet event wearing a black layered bob with touches of gray for a salt-and-pepper effect. More recently, she has worn lighter shades, including the blond look seen in a 2019 selfie posted to Instagram. In that photo, she showed off thick bangs and golden hair while noting that she was not wearing makeup. She captioned the post, “Selfless selfie ... no makeup,” and signed it “xoxo, JP,” an apparent nod to her Happy Days character.
