Washington provides coverage options for thousands of residents who do not get health insurance through an employer.
WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Residents in Washington will soon be able to enroll in health insurance through the state’s individual market.
Open enrollment starts on Sunday, Nov. 1, and runs through Jan. 15, 2027.
The plans are available to people without employer-sponsored coverage, including self-employed residents and early retirees.
To have coverage begin on Jan. 1, 2027, residents must enroll by Dec. 31. Those who sign up between Jan. 1 and 15 will see their coverage start on Feb. 1.
The enrollment period follows new federal rules that recently made certain noncitizens ineligible for Medicaid in Washington. Even so, all state residents, regardless of immigration status, may purchase qualified health and dental plans through the state’s individual market.
Coordinated Care Corporation, Kaiser and Lifewise have been approved to provide individual coverage in Whatcom County in 2027.
The state says nearly 250,000 residents purchased individual health plans this year.
