Walgreens customer says prescription suddenly appeared after she mentioned switching insurance

A woman says she had a baffling experience at Walgreens and turned to viewers for help making sense of it. Melissa (melissalomuscio) posted a TikTok saying her prescription was initially unavailable, then appeared to be ready almost immediately after she mentioned she would be starting a new insurance plan the next day.

According to Melissa, the sequence began when she called Walgreens to ask whether her medication had arrived. She says she was told it had and was asked to come pick it up. But when she went to the store, employees told her the prescription was not ready. She said she explained that she had already spoken with someone before arriving, but the answer did not change.

Melissa then said everything shifted once she mentioned that her current insurance would end that day and that she would be moving to a new plan the following day. At that point, she said, the staff member went to the back and returned with her prescription. “And I said. I said, ‘Sir, why didn’t you have it before? Why are you gatekeeping it? Why are you telling me to come back tomorrow when you had it?’” she recalled saying.

“He didn’t want to do the work”

She ended the video asking viewers for their theories, saying she could not figure out why the situation unfolded that way and wanted a second opinion. “Like, what is that about? I’ve tried to think of, like, reasons, and I can’t think of one good reason why he wouldn’t have just given it to me. It’s like a…? Why is it like a…? I don’t know. Does anybody know? Odd,” she said.

Viewers responded with a range of guesses. Some said insurance likely explained the delay. One commenter wrote that the employee probably did not want to do the extra work and, after hearing about the insurance change, realized it would be easier to hand over the prescription. Another suggested the medication may have been set aside for another patient and released once the staff understood she might not be able to return as easily the next day.

Others offered more technical explanations. One person said, “It’s called cenfill and he pulled it back and got it ready for you while you stood there.” Another wrote, “It was already billed; it was probably just sent to the central fill pharmacy.” Several others echoed the same idea in the comments.

Some viewers also shared their own complaints about Walgreens. One person said that although they and their husband shared the same doctor, Walgreens told them the doctor had been blocked from sending prescriptions, then filled the exact same medication for the husband. Another recalled calling ahead to refill a prescription, being told the stock was checked, and then arriving the next day only to be told there was no prescription available.

On TikTok, there are many videos about Walgreens customers running into problems with prescription pickups. That ongoing frustration has helped give the chain a poor reputation online, and Melissa’s account has added another example to the mix.
