Durango, CO: Homeowners in and around Durango whose houses were damaged by recent flooding may be eligible for financial help through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Section 504 Home Repair Program.
The program is not a dedicated flood recovery initiative, but it can assist qualified homeowners with essential repairs, health and safety hazards, and restoration work after flood damage.
The program provides low-interest loans of up to $40,000 for low- and very low-income homeowners to repair, improve, or modernize their homes. These loans have a fixed 1% interest rate and can be repaid over as long as 20 years. Homeowners age 62 and older with very low incomes may also qualify for grants of up to $10,000 to remove health and safety hazards. In some situations, applicants may be eligible for both a loan and a grant, for a total of up to $50,000 in assistance.
To be eligible, applicants must own and live in the home, meet income guidelines, be unable to obtain affordable credit elsewhere, and reside in an eligible rural area. Applications are accepted throughout the year while funds remain available.
Residents who want to apply or learn more can contact USDA Rural Development by email at [email protected]. Application materials and additional eligibility details are available through USDA Rural Development.
