Background on the Recall
Aphreseller, the eBay seller behind Buy-herbal.com, announced a voluntary recall of Kian Pee Wan capsules, a dietary supplement promoted for weight gain and appetite stimulation. The announcement was issued in late March, with the information current as of early April.
The product was sold nationwide online through eBay.com.
Aphreseller said it is informing customers through a press notice and email, and is arranging for the return of recalled units.
Why the Product Is Being Recalled
FDA testing found that the capsules contain dexamethasone and cyproheptadine, neither of which was declared on the label.
Products containing these ingredients cannot be sold as dietary supplements.
Kian Pee Wan capsules are considered an unapproved drug, and their safety and effectiveness have not been established, which is why the product is being recalled.
Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid. Reported risks include reduced ability to fight infections, elevated blood sugar, muscle injury, psychiatric effects, cardiovascular problems, adrenal suppression, and withdrawal symptoms if stopped suddenly.
Cyproheptadine is a prescription antihistamine. Known risks include drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, restlessness, dry mouth, nausea, diarrhea or constipation, urinary retention, and blurred vision.

All lots of Kian Pee Wan capsules are included in the recall.
The capsules are described as a dietary supplement used to help gain weight and increase appetite.
