Some Social Security beneficiaries will receive November payments early

Digilifetrends Updated 2026-09-30 3 min read

Some Social Security beneficiaries will get their checks ahead of the usual schedule this November.

The Social Security Administration will issue the first round of regular November benefits on Tuesday, Nov. 10, one day early because Veterans Day falls the next day, according to the agency’s calendar. All Social Security offices will be closed for the federal holiday.

Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, recipients will also be paid early, with November checks arriving on Friday, Oct. 30, since the first day of the month falls on a Sunday.

Beneficiaries should also note several changes to Social Security payment delivery. The SSA plans to complete its move to electronic payments by the end of the year. The agency also said Fifth Third Bank will replace Comerica Bank as the financial agent for the Direct Express debit card program.

Looking ahead, the SSA has announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027, which is expected to raise monthly benefits by about $56 beginning in January.

In Connecticut, more than 737,000 people receive Social Security benefits, or about 20% of the state’s population, according to Congressional Statistics from December 2024. Nationwide, nearly 71 million Americans receive Social Security and 7.4 million receive SSI, according to the SSA’s January 2026 figures.

Here’s a guide to November Social Security payments.

People who started receiving benefits before May 1997 will be paid on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income will receive their November payments on Friday, Oct. 30.

What is SSI?

Supplemental Security Income provides monthly payments to people with limited income or resources who are 65 or older, blind, or have a qualifying disability. Children with a qualifying disability may also qualify, according to the SSA website.

Adults who qualify for SSI generally do not have monthly wages above $2,073.

Those eligible for SSI can start the application process online, in person at a local Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time on weekdays.

What should I do if my payment does not arrive on time?

The Social Security Administration recommends waiting three additional mailing days before contacting the agency if a payment does not arrive on the expected date. Most payments arrive on time because 99% of beneficiaries are paid electronically.

Where can I find a Social Security office in Connecticut?

Connecticut has 15 Social Security Field Offices, one Disability Determination Service office, and two Office of Hearings Operations locations. To find the nearest office, use the Social Security Office Locator.

When can you begin collecting Social Security?

People can begin receiving reduced Social Security benefits as early as age 62. Waiting until full retirement age results in a larger monthly payment, and that age has gradually increased over time, rising by two months for each successive birth year.

For example, people born in 1958 reach full retirement age at 66 years and 8 months, while those born in 1959 reach it at 66 years and 10 months. Anyone born in 1960 or later reaches full retirement age at 67.

You can calculate your full retirement age on the SSA website.
