ShopRite launches complimentary nutrition starter kits for customers starting GLP-1 weight-loss drugs

NEW JERSEY — ShopRite is rolling out a refreshed version of its Wellness Your Way Starter Kit, giving customers who are starting GLP-1 medications for weight management free nutrition advice, shopping guidance and product samples.

The supermarket chain said customers who fill their first GLP-1 prescription at a ShopRite Pharmacy will receive a free starter kit while supplies last. The program is meant to help shoppers adjust to changes in eating habits and make more informed food choices while using the medications.

The updated kits build on an earlier launch and feature a broader nutrition guide that walks customers through the supermarket aisle by aisle. It includes shopping tips, product highlights and practical ideas for adding nutritious foods to everyday routines.

“As customers adjust their eating habits while beginning a GLP-1 medication, we want to make navigating the supermarket feel more manageable,” said Aaron Sapp, Vice President of Pharmacy and Wellness for Wakefern Food Corp. “Our goal is to provide practical resources and support that help customers build new routines and make informed choices that work for their individual needs.”

GLP-1 medications are often prescribed to help manage Type 2 diabetes and, depending on the drug, support weight loss. Since these medicines can affect appetite and food intake, maintaining proper nutrition is an important consideration for patients.

ShopRite said the Wellness Your Way nutrition guide was created with input from the company’s registered dietitian and emphasizes several nutritional priorities, including protein, fiber, hydration and nutrient-dense foods. The guide also features recipes, product suggestions and brand details aimed at helping customers choose foods that suit their needs.

Along with the nutrition guide, each starter kit contains samples from participating brand partners, giving customers a chance to try different food and wellness products.

Participating brands include Ensure, TUMS, OLLY, G Hughes Zero Sugar, Mentos Gum, MiraLAX, Kraft, Bowl & Basket, Thomas’, GoGo squeeZ, Pure Protein and Eat Pecans from the American Pecan Promotion Board.

ShopRite said the effort is designed to link pharmacy services with everyday nutrition resources, offering customers support beyond simply filling a prescription. By distributing the kits through its pharmacies, the company aims to make nutrition information and shopping help easier to access for people beginning weight-management treatment.
