As colder weather sets in, many people start looking for easy ways to stay warm. Turning on the heating is the most obvious option, but rising energy costs mean cheaper alternatives are welcome too.

Some people reach for a cosy jumper, a hot drink, or a blanket. Another straightforward option is to enjoy a hot shower.

While some prefer cooler water, others want the shower as hot as it can go. A DIY expert has now shared a simple trick that can make the water a little hotter if the temperature is not reaching the level you want. It takes less than a minute and only requires one tool that is likely already in the house.

How to make your shower hotter in 30 seconds

DIY expert Fix it with Fraz, who has more than 280,000 followers on TikTok, shared the method online. Calling it “so simple,” he asked whether the shower never gets as hot as the other taps in the home, even when the valve is turned all the way.

He said the adjustment had made a huge difference at home and then walked viewers through the process.

According to Fraz, the only thing needed is a small hex key, also known as an Allen key. He pointed to the shower handle used to control the temperature.

“Behind the handle there's a little hidden thing called a grub screw,” he explained. “Just pop your Allen key into the hole, it's usually a 2.5 millimetre Allen key, and just turn it anti-clockwise, so towards you a few times, until it allows you to pull the handle away from you.”

Once the handle is removed, a small white knob with a screw on the end is revealed. Fraz said the next step is simple.

He advised turning that piece fully to the left, then putting the valve back in place.

After that, he said to make sure everything is flush and secure, then use the Allen key again to tighten it.

“And that is literally it. That's job done,” he said.

He added that although the shower valve returns to the same position, the internal part now moves further toward the hot side, meaning the shower can run much hotter. If it becomes too warm, it can simply be turned down a little.

Fraz described it as a major improvement, especially as colder weather approaches.
