November Social Security and SSI checks: what beneficiaries should know

Digilifetrends Published 3 min read

For the 5.8 million Floridians who receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits, November budgeting may be a little more complicated because of holiday and weekend timing.

SSI recipients — people with limited or no income or resources, those age 65 or older, and those who are blind or have a qualifying disability — will not receive a check in November. These payments normally arrive on the first of the month, but because that date falls on a Sunday, the money was sent earlier, on Friday, Oct. 30. The next SSI payment will not arrive until Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Some Social Security recipients, including retired workers, people with disabilities and survivors, will also receive their benefits earlier than usual. Payments are usually issued on Wednesdays according to birth dates, but Wednesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. As a result, people whose birthdays fall between the first and 10th will be paid on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

All Social Security offices will be closed on Veterans Day.

Recent Social Security updates

Beneficiaries will have a little more money to work with next year. Social Security and SSI benefits are scheduled to rise 3.6% starting in January 2027, according to a recent announcement from the Social Security Administration, marking the biggest increase in four years.

That works out to roughly $75 more each month, or about $902 more per year, for the average Social Security payment. Experts say the increase still may not fully keep pace with higher prices and Medicare premiums.

SSI payments will increase starting Dec. 31, 2026, while Social Security benefits will rise beginning in January 2027.

The agency also said it recently completed the “most comprehensive” Social Security number record cleanup in its 91-year history, correcting nearly 15% of active Social Security numbers across nearly 390 million total records since the start of President Donald Trump’s second administration.

That effort included adding 17 million dates of death to records that were missing them and updating about 25 million records to include citizenship information. Work is still ongoing to correct another 8.5 million records with inaccurate citizenship status, which the Trump administration has made a priority.

The SSA said the changes are needed to help prevent fraud and make sure benefits are distributed properly. Critics, however, say the agency is relying on citizenship data from the Department of Homeland Security’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE, service, which they describe as incomplete and error-prone. Efforts to use SAVE and Social Security number data to build eligible voter rolls for states have been blocked by the courts.

Social Security payment schedule for November 2026

Social Security benefits, which are paid mostly to older or retired recipients, are generally issued on Wednesdays based on birth dates. In November, the first payment will arrive early because of Veterans Day.

If you started receiving Social Security before May 1997, your payment is usually issued on the third day of each month unless that date falls on a weekend or holiday.

Supplemental Security Income is intended to help people with limited or no income or resources, people age 65 or older, and people who are blind or have a qualifying disability. These payments typically arrive on the first business day of the month unless that day falls on a weekend or holiday. The November payment was sent on Friday, Oct. 30.

How many Floridians receive Social Security or SSI?

As of October 2026, 5,390,855 Floridians received Social Security benefits, according to the SSA.

In September, 410,070 Floridians received SSI benefits.
