MERRILLVILLE – NiSource Inc. said it plans to pass along $57.5 million in savings to its current electric customers through data center development. If approved by regulators, the average residential electric customer would receive an estimated monthly bill credit of about $5 for 18 months, starting roughly 30 days after approval.
According to NIPSCO, the new credit adds to $1.75 billion in customer credits expected from previously announced agreements with Amazon, Alphabet and Microsoft. Under those arrangements, large-load customers will pay for the infrastructure required to serve them, and part of the revenue from their contracts will be returned directly to existing NIPSCO electric customers. The first of those credits is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027 and increase over time.
“When our region grows, our customers share in the benefits,” said Vince Parisi, NIPSCO president and chief operating officer. “Putting the value from data center development directly back on customers’ bills is one more way we’re turning growth into real savings for families across northern Indiana.”
