Residents of New York can apply for state help with home heating costs this winter.
The Home Energy Assistance Program, known as HEAP, offers eligible households benefits of as much as $1,086, depending on income, household size and heating source.
A household of four with monthly earnings of up to $6,852 before taxes may be eligible.
Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Households that qualify may submit an application online, by mail or in person through their local Department of Social Services.
Extra emergency aid will be available beginning January 4 for households that are close to running out of heating fuel or face utility shutoff.
“No New Yorker should have to choose between heating their homes this winter and keeping food on the table,” Governor Hochul said. “As President Trump’s war in Iran drives up energy prices across the country, programs like the Home Energy Assistance Program will deliver relief to New Yorkers who need it most.”
New Yorkers can find more information and apply online.
