Apple’s latest iOS 27 update includes a feature many people may have overlooked: the ability to turn a physical loyalty card into a digital pass in Apple Wallet. In practice, that means an old cardboard loyalty card can now live on your iPhone instead.
The tool is called Create A Pass and it arrives through Apple Intelligence, the company’s built-in AI system that now powers many parts of the iPhone experience.
Using it is straightforward. You build a custom pass in Apple Wallet, enter details such as the business name, loyalty number and expiry date, then scan the barcode or QR code so it is added automatically. You can also personalise the pass by changing its background colour, making it easier to tell cards apart.
Apple says: “You can make your own passes from a physical card, photo, or screenshot—useful for membership and loyalty cards that have a barcode or QR code but no digital pass, like a library card or gym membership.”
The new option should help clear out the pile of plastic and cardboard cards that tend to build up in wallets and bags over time. Below is a simple guide to get started.
How to add physical loyalty cards to Apple Wallet
- Open the Wallet app
- Tap the + button
- Select Create a Pass
- Choose Create Pass Manually
- Pick a template
- Enter the required details
- Tap the checkmark when finished
You can also update a pass later by tapping the three dots and choosing “Edit Pass”.
