A preexisting medical condition may complicate an amputation injury claim by making it more difficult to determine what caused the loss of a limb and what amount of compensation is reasonable. Even so, it does not automatically bar a person from pursuing damages when another party’s negligence led to the injury.

Chicago, in northeastern Illinois on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan, is a major transportation and industrial hub. Its expressways, warehouses, manufacturing sites, and construction zones put workers at risk of serious roadway and workplace accidents. Those incidents can cause severe crush injuries that may result in amputation, especially when recovery is affected by an existing medical condition.
