People dealing with changes to health coverage can receive free, confidential help from certified health care navigators through Pisgah Legal Services as enrollment opens for 2027 plans.
Navigators can assist with comparing Marketplace plans, completing enrollment and understanding updates that affect Affordable Care Act and Medicaid coverage.
Several changes are already in place, including work requirements for Medicaid eligibility. Medicaid eligibility will also be reviewed every six months rather than once a year.
“With so many changes to the law that impact ACA and Medicaid coverage, it’s more important than ever to have a knowledgeable advocate by your side when you enroll,” said Mike McDonald, managing director of Pisgah Legal Services. “Our goal is to make sure you understand your coverage so you can access the services you need.”
Appointments are free and confidential. Open enrollment through the HealthCare.gov Marketplace runs from Nov. 1 through Jan. 15, 2027. Anyone who wants coverage to start on Jan. 1 must enroll by Dec. 15.
To make an appointment, visit www.pisgahlegal.org/health or call 828-210-3404. More information about Medicaid changes is available at www.medicaid.nc.gov/changes.
