Eli Lilly said its next-generation weight-loss medicine, retatrutide, outperformed Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic in a head-to-head study. Shares of Novo Nordisk fell after the announcement.
Among patients with type 2 diabetes, retatrutide reduced A1C by an average of 2.2% over 80 weeks. A1C is a measure of long-term blood sugar control. By comparison, people taking Ozempic saw a smaller decline in A1C.
