Citi is raising costs on two American Airlines credit cards while revamping rewards

Citi is updating two of its best-known credit card offerings, and the overhaul will cost customers more.

Alongside broader changes the bank is making this year, including a shift toward digital services, its American Airlines cards are set to become pricier.

The new pricing will add $51 a year to the AAdvantage Platinum Select and the AAdvantage Business Elite.

Those changes are scheduled to take effect on January 24, 2027.

The Platinum Select will gain new ways to earn miles, including double miles at gas stations and, for the first time, EV charging stations.

It will also offer triple miles on select hotel bookings and car rentals, plus double miles on Rides and Rails purchases.

Cardholders will also receive a free Walmart+ subscription valued at $98 and 50% off an annual FOX One subscription.

At the same time, Platinum Select users will lose the 25% discount on inflight food and beverage purchases.

The Business card will introduce a new Self-Select Category designed to add value based on a company’s spending patterns.

Citi’s added benefits will also include stronger travel insurance protection, with improved trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage.

Businesses that carry the card will get 25% off a Melio subscription plan used to manage company expenses.

The hotel booking and car rental perks available on the Platinum card will also apply to the business version.

Cardholders will be eligible for a TSA PreCheck application fee credit once every four years, provided the fee is charged to the card.

However, they will lose the 25% savings on inflight food and beverage purchases as well as the 25% savings on inflight Wi-Fi purchases.
