Here are 12 classic rock bands that still have only one original member in the lineup.

12 Classic Rock Bands That Only Have 1 Original Member Left

Plenty of groups that first came together in the 1960s and 1970s are still active, even if that might not seem obvious at first. But when a band stays together for decades, lineup changes are almost unavoidable, whether because of personal differences, a death in the group, or another reason.

As a result, many of these bands are now down to just one founding member. Others, including Lynyrd Skynyrd, no longer have any original members left.

Before getting into the list, it helps to define what “original” means. Some people consider the band’s first widely recognized lineup to be the original one, but that is not always the full story. If there were earlier musicians involved before the group became well known, those players technically count as part of the band’s original foundation.

It is also worth clarifying what qualifies as “classic rock.” While some classic rock stations include acts from the 1990s, this list sticks to bands that formed in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

Classic rock also refers to a certain style — think Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Van Halen, although none of those bands meet the criteria for this list — and most groups formed after 1990 do not fit that sound. The Black Crowes are an exception some might mention, but they do not qualify here either.
